Anal Sex for Seniors

May 22, 2022

In years past, anal sex was considered somewhat taboo, a fringe sexual activity that only perverts would do. But attitudes change over time, and now anal sex is generally accepted.

Why Anal Sex?

Couples have anal sex for the same reason they have “vanilla” sex — it feels good and is sexually exciting. The anal area has many nerve endings that can make stimulation very pleasurable.

Many women and men enjoy the sensation of fullness when their anus is penetrated. Some women enjoy the ultimate fullness of having both their anus and vagina filled at the same time, either with a finger or toy.

Concerns About Anal

Pain. Partners can fear that anal sex will hurt, or they’ve had a poor experience in the past where they’ve had pain. It doesn’t need to be uncomfortable, with proper preparation and lots of lubrication.

There are three rules to follow to have pain-free anal: lubrication, lubrication, and more lubrication!

Unlike the vagina, the anus has no natural lubrication, so a lubricant needs to be used generously.

There are special, thicker water-based lubricants designed specifically for anal play. Silicon lubricant also works well since it is longer lasting.

Occasionally, the pain is caused by an inability to relax the sphincter muscle at the entrance to the anus. It helps to be fully aroused by lots of foreplay and focusing on relaxing the muscle.

Poop. Normally, there is nothing in the anal canal. Be sure to have a bowel movement before an anal sex session. Or, if you’d feel more comfortable, you could use an enema in advance. The giver could also use a medical glove for finger penetration.

But even if it turns out there is a little stool present, it’s not a big deal. Just keep some wet wipes and a towel nearby if there’s a need to clean up a bit.

How to Be Successful at Anal

There are several things to consider before doing anal sex:

  • Use good hygiene. Take a bath or shower before the sexual encounter, and pay special attention to cleaning below your waist.
  • Do a lot of foreplay in advance to help be aroused and relaxed. If she’s turned on, she won’t be so focused on whether it might hurt, whether she should be doing it, etc.
  • Use lots and lots of lubrication! Without added lubrication, anal sex will likely be painful. Using it can make the difference between a sexy, enjoyable experience, and one that leaves negative memories.
  • Go very slow penetrating and let her control it. The receiver should be controlling penetration. When she’s ready, push the head of the penis inside the anal opening, then stop. Give her time to adjust to the feeling of penetration and relax her muscles. When she’s ready for more, increase the depth of penetration and stop. When she’s comfortable with that, then begin gentle, slow thrusting. Another approach is for the man to remain still while the woman moves her body to push against him for initial penetration and movement.
  • Use a vibrator or your hand at the same time you’re being anally penetrated. Some people find they can relax more when they’re experiencing intense clitoral or penile stimulation at the same time.
  • Never move from anal penetration directly to vaginal penetration. Doing so can cause a urinary tract infection, which is often extremely painful and requires a visit to a doctor. Always wash any toys or a penis with soap and water after anal penetration, before vaginal penetration.

Types of Anal Play

Anal sex isn’t just about penetrating a person’s anus with a penis. Anal sex can also include:

  • Touching around the anal entrance. Many women and men find it very pleasurable to have their anal opening stroked as a part of sexual play.
  • Penetration with a finger. If your partner is enjoying touching around the anal entrance, you might want to try sliding a single finger inside. Just be sure to use lots of lubricants. Slowly move deeper inside and try different movements with your finger like in and out and side to side. Find out what works best for your partner.
  • Stimulate a man’s prostate with anal fingering while giving him a hand job or oral. Many men find it extremely arousing to have their prostate stroked at the same time they are receiving stimulation to their penis. It can lead to massive full-body orgasms and strong ejaculations. The prostate is accessible about two finger digits inside the anal opening and can be massaged with a “come hither” motion toward the front of the body.

Positions for Anal Sex

The classic position for the partner receiving penetrative anal sex is to be on all fours. Bending the upper body down to rest on the bed or floor can open the receiver up to make access easy.

Some people find other positions more comfortable, such as laying on your sides or laying on your back. A woman can control the movement by assuming a woman-on-top position.

Give Anal Sex a Try

Many people have fantasized about anal sex, but have never tried it. Some people consider it perverted or taboo, or are too embarrassed about it to talk to their partners about it.

If you’re interested, I encourage you to give it a try and see what you think. If you don’t enjoy it, you don’t have to do it again. But if you do like it, you’ve found a new source of sexual pleasure.
